NOVELTY - The photodetector has a first dielectric material (102) positioned on a substrate. An optical waveguide (106) is positioned on the first dielectric material. A second dielectric material is positioned on the optical waveguide. A graphene layer (110) positioned on the second dielectric material. A first electrode (112) and a second electrode (114) are positioned on the graphene layer. USE - Photodetector used for optical communication. ADVANTAGE - Obtains wide wavelength selectivity and wide bandwidth. Enables operation even at low voltage by including graphene layer having high electrical conductivity.
