NOVELTY - Preparation of reduced graphene oxide, using plant-based resin as a coating to the materials, involves: i) preparing 2 wt.% rosin salt solution with a solvent, followed by stirring at 600 rotations/second (rpm) for 30 minutes, at 60°C and filtering; ii) coating the solution on an indium tin oxide coated glass substrate, then drying in an incubator, at 40-60°C, to form dried substrate; iii) drying the substrate after coating each layer, in air; iv) vacuum annealing the dried substrate as obtained in step (ii) and (iii) in a furnace for 10-120 minutes, at 400-800°C, under pressure 0.8-1.2 millibar, in argon and/or nitrogen atmosphere, at flow rate 10-20.0 cm3/minute, followed by cooling at room temperature 25-35°C, to form reduced graphene oxide coated substrate. USE - Method is used for preparing reduced graphene oxide. ADVANTAGE - The method is a commercially viable, simple, easy and quick process which enables preparing reduced graphene oxide in large scale using environmentally friendly biomaterial. The use of rGO as coating material, improves the strength, thermal properties and conductivity of the coated material. The coating obtained by one step process, on surface of metals, ceramics, glass, and like materials, under controlled atmospheric heating, can withstand temperature 500°C or more. The prepared reduced graphene oxide has excellent coating property.
