NOVELTY - The method involves contacting an anodization layer with a solution at a temperature greater than freezing and less than 160 degrees F. The solution comprises graphene particles (20) and a corrosion inhibitor. The corrosion inhibitor is selected from a group consisting of trivalent chromium compounds, cerium compounds and praseodymium compounds. The graphene particles are functionalized with an organo-functionalized alkoxysilane, where the solution has a pH of 3-5. The oxidizer comprises peroxide or permanganate, and the solution further comprises an oxidizer. USE - The method is useful for sealing an anodization layer of an article including air cycle machine, fuel control, valve body, metering valve, stator vane, fan case and shroud for a gas turbine engine (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method: provides anodization layer with enhanced corrosion resistance and abrasion protection for anodized metals; and provides anodization to form the hard coat degrades the corrosion resistance of the thin anodization layer.
