NOVELTY - Cathode material comprises sodium phosphate/carbon composite (I). The material has powder resistivity of 10-5000, preferably 20-2000 Omega .cm at pressure of 12 MPa. USE - The cathode material is useful in sodium ion batteries of device i.e. power supply or energy storage unit, electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, electric bicycle, electric scooter, electric golf vehicle, electric truck, electric ship and energy storage system (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The cathode material has improved capacity and better cycle stability, and lower cost. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Cathode material for sodium ion batteries comprises sodium phosphate/carbon composite of formula (Na2M1hM2k(PO4)X/C) (I). The material has powder resistivity of 10-5000, preferably 20-2000 Omega .cm at pressure of 12 MPa. M1, M2 = transition metal ion i.e. Ti, V, Cr, Mg, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Sr, Y, Nb, Mo, Sn, Be, and W; h, k = 0-1; h+k = 1; and X = halide ion i.e. Cl and Br. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparing cathode material; (2) sodium ion battery comprising anode, cathode, separator and electrolyte; (3) battery module, comprising the sodium ion battery; and (4) battery pack, comprising the battery module.
