NOVELTY - Cathode material comprises silicon oxide (SiOy) and M compound, where M is metal and y is 0.2-0.9. USE - The material is useful for lithium ion battery. ADVANTAGE - The material has excellent cyclic expansion performance, and is good for development of high energy density battery. The method uses the raw material and device arecommon, and the reaction condition is mild, simple and economic, and is easy to realize industrialization. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing the cathode material, comprising mixing the raw material containing SiOx material and the metal M uniformly, and performing heat treatment and heat preservation in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to obtain the reduction product SiOy and the oxidation product M compound, and (ii) performing acid-treatment the product using acid to dissolve and partially remove the M compound.
