NOVELTY - Growing a multilayer graphene film comprises disposing a carbonizing catalyst having a surface in a chemical-vapor-deposition reaction chamber having a pressure of 1 mtorr to 760 torr and a temperature of 200-1200 degrees C, flowing a gaseous carbon source having carbon atoms and a weak oxidizing vapor over the surface of the carbonizing catalyst to cause the carbon atoms from the carbon source to deposit in a crystallized carbon-atom arrangement on the surface of the carbonizing catalyst, and cooling the carbonizing catalyst and the crystallized carbon-atom arrangement. USE - The method is useful for growing a multilayer graphene film (claimed), which is useful: to form a flexible transparent electrode; as an ultrathin electrode for lithium-ion batteries, interconnects for integrated circuits, active layers for photo-detectors and as planar optical polarizers; and in super-capacitors and biosensors. ADVANTAGE - The method allows to form uniform, high-quality and large-scale multilayer graphene films with excellent electrical properties and good optical transmittance in an economical manner.
