NOVELTY - A fiber-reinforced polymer composite comprises glass fibers bound within a solid polymer matrix, at least some of the glass fibers are in contact with graphene and electrical resistance is changed at the time of deformation. USE - Fiber-reinforced polymer composite used for manufacture of strain gauge, detection of change in electrical resistance or electrical conductivity (all claimed). Uses include but are not limited to piezoresponsive apparatus, detection of strain or deformation, aerospace, automotive, marine, and construction industries. ADVANTAGE - The fiber-reinforced polymer composite ensures reversibility in resistance change. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) strain gauge, which comprises fiber-reinforced polymer composite; and (2) structure incorporates an integrated strain gauge for monitoring strain in the structure or the strain gauge incorporates the fiber-reinforced polymer composite.
