NOVELTY - Nano-graphitic sponge comprises not less than 50% particles made from including graphite microparticles, single-layer graphene nanoparticles and/or multi-layer graphene nanoparticles, based on total sponge weight. The particles comprise mechanically exfoliated single and/or multilayer graphene nanoparticles with a thickness of less than 50 nm along the direction of the c-axis. USE - The nano-graphitic sponge is useful in product, preferably electrode of battery and a capacitor, where electrode is an anode or a cathode (claimed), absorbents, catalysts, catalyst supports, sensors, electrodes (e.g. transparent conductive electrodes), energy storage and conversion, fuel cells, batteries, supercapacitors, solar cells and biological applications. ADVANTAGE - The nano-graphitic sponge has simple, economical and scalable preparation process, large surfaces and pore volumes, low densities, good electrical conductivities and mechanical properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for product comprising the nano-graphitic sponge, where the product is part of a battery, part of a supercapacitor, part of a sensor, part of a fuel cell, part of a solar cell, a catalyst, a catalyst support material or an absorbent.
