NOVELTY - Composition (C1) comprises hydrophobic nanocellulose, where the nanocellulose has a crystallinity of at least 60%. USE - The composition is useful in a product (claimed) comprising structural object, a foam, an aerogel, a polymer composite, a carbon composite, a film, a coating, a coating precursor, a current or voltage carrier, a filter, a membrane, a catalyst, a catalyst substrate, a coating additive, a paint additive, an adhesive additive, a cement additive, a paper coating, a thickening agent, a rheological modifier or an additive for a drilling fluid. ADVANTAGE - The composition: provides purity, crystallinity, strength, thermal stability, transparency; provides high transparency, good mechanical strength and/or enhanced gas barrier properties; and is economical. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) a product comprising the nanocellulose composition, where the product optionally further comprises a material comprising a polymer, a carbon fiber, graphene, a glass, a solvent, a fluid and/or a substrate; and (2) a composition (C2) comprising lignin-coated nanocellulose.
