NOVELTY - A composite material comprises a thermosetting polymer reinforced with a natural fabric. USE - Composite material is used as composite plate layer for multilayer armor and multilayer ballistic system used in ballistic shielding for protecting against rifle shots (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composite material has good adhesiveness of the dispersed phase, which is a natural fabric, and the polymer matrix as a continuous phase. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: manufacture of the composite material, which involves placing a piassava fabric functionalized with graphene oxide, corresponding to a desired proportion of 30 vol.%, inside a suitable metallic mold, and adding a still fluid graphene oxide functionalized with a polyester resin and covering the mold; a ceramic material, which has a thickness of 7-10 mm and comprises alumina doped with 4 %mass niobia with hexagonal geometry, and is obtained by weighing and packing the alumina, niobia and polyethylene glycol powders, in a liquid phase, in an alumina ball mill for 12 hours, and maintaining for 48 hours in an oven at 80° C for drying; manufacture of the ceramic material, which involves macerating and sieving to obtain the powder, pressing under a pressure of 30 MPa, and sintering the pressed compact in the oven; and multilayer armor, which comprises the composite material (composite plate) glued with a polyurethane adhesive to a front ceramic layer, responsible for eroding the projectile and attenuating its impact.
