NOVELTY - A graphene material is prepared from graphene oxide functionalized with platinum, starting from solution of hexachloroplatinic acid as precursor of platinum in an acidic medium and has high concentration of functionalization with platinum of 4.7 wt.%, specific surface area of 228 m2/g and high porosity. The graphene material is functionalized with platinum in a microwave field. USE - Graphene material used for forming catalysts. ADVANTAGE - The graphene material provides hydrophobic, active and stable catalysts in highly radioactive environments in the presence of moisture. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the graphene material, which involves mixing ultrasonically-treated suspension of graphene oxide with a non-polluting reducing agent, such as ethylene glycol, and the platinum precursor such as hexachloroplatinic acid, and introducing mixture into a microwave field of 800 W in an acidic medium at 180° C.
