NOVELTY - Preparing a magnetic reduced graphene oxide composite material comprises: (1) mixing oxidized graphene with ethylene glycol and then ultrasonically treating; (2) dissolving sodium citrate in ethylene glycol mixture, and heating the mixture; (3) mixing iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and urea with the mixture and then stirring to obtain a mixed solution of ethylene glycol; (4) reacting the mixed solution in a reactor and then heating, and cooling the heated mixture; and (5) centrifuging the reacted mixture, and washing the mixture and freeze-drying. USE - The method is useful for preparing a magnetic reduced graphene oxide composite material that is useful for removing quinolone antibiotic from water (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is capable of preparing a magnetic reduction graphene oxide in a simple and cost-effective manner with high purity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing a magnetic reduced graphene oxide composite material comprises: (1) mixing oxidized graphene with ethylene glycol and then ultrasonically treating; (2) dissolving sodium citrate in ethylene glycol mixture, and heating the mixture; (3) mixing iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and urea with the mixture and then stirring to obtain a mixed solution of ethylene glycol; (4) reacting the ethylene glycol mixed solution in a reactor and then heating, and cooling the heated mixture; and (5) centrifuging the reacted mixture, and washing the mixture and freeze-drying to obtain magnetic reducing graphene oxide. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for removing quinolone antibiotic form water comprising: adding graphene oxide with an aqueous solution having a quinolone antibiotic concentration of 1-5 mg/l, where the graphene oxide concentration in the aqueous solution is 10-200 mg/l; and subjecting the mixture to a magnetic separation process at a pH of 6.5-7.5.
