NOVELTY - A nanocomposite comprises a metal oxide comprising at least one of zirconia and titania, and two-dimensional nanosheets comprising at least one of graphene oxide, a derivative of graphene oxide, and boron nitride. The weight ratio of metal oxide to two-dimensional nanosheets is 2:1-19:1. USE - Nanocomposite used for water shutoff in oil applications. ADVANTAGE - The nanocomposite has excellent mechanical and thermal stability, and effectively reduces excess water production in mature water oil applications.
