NOVELTY - An antimicrobial nano-composite of graphene oxide silver nanoparticles (GO-AgNPs) have face-centered cubic (fcc) symmetry, where X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of GO-AgNPs exhibits peaks at 2 theta values of 28.1 degrees ; 32.5 degrees ; and 38.5 degrees . USE - An antimicrobial nano-composite of graphene oxide silver nanoparticles (GO-AgNP) for tiles (claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of antimicrobial GO-AgNPs which involves providing graphene oxide as graphite powder; adding concentrated sulfuric acid under stirring, adding 5 g of sodium nitrate (NaNO3), stirring for 1 hour, cooling to 0 degrees C using an ice-water bath, adding potassium permanganate (KMnO4) in small portion during 2 hours, increasing temperature of reaction mixture to 35 degrees C, stirring for 2 hours, quenching reaction mixture by adding 200 ml sterile ice water and 7 ml of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) (30%) to neutralize excess KMnO4 and MnO2, filtering graphene oxide, washing with aqueous hydrochloric acid (HCl) (3%) until no precipitation of barium sulfate (BaSO4) occurs in the presence of aqueous barium chloride (BaCl2) solution, further washing graphene oxide with water until chloride test with silver nitrate (AgNO3) is negative, purifying brown graphene oxides, and air-drying at 40 degrees C in an oven.
