NOVELTY - A coated cathode active material comprises a cathode active material and a coating layer. The coating layer of the coated cathode active material is derived from a phosphorus-containing compound (I). USE - Coated cathode active material used for slurry for cathode for secondary battery (all claimed) e.g. lithium-ion battery for electric vehicles (EV) and grid energy storage. ADVANTAGE - The coated cathode active material provides slurry having improved electrochemical performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A coated cathode active material comprises a cathode active material and a coating layer. The coating layer of the coated cathode active material is derived from a phosphorus-containing compound of formula (I). R1 = alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, enynyl, cycloalkyl, or alkylcarbonylalkyl;and R2 = alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, enynyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkylcarbonylalkyl, or hydroxy, in which each of the alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, enynyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, and alkylcarbonylalkyl is optionally substituted with substituent chosen from F, Cl, Br, I, cyano, hydroxyl, N3, NO2, NH2, ester, amido, aldehyde, acyl, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio or alkylamino. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a cathode slurry, which comprises the coated cathode active material, a binder material, and an aqueous solvent.
