NOVELTY - Producing graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide nanostructured materials involves selecting and preparing equipment and reagents according to characteristics of the material to be synthesized, and then carrying out pre-oxidation, oxidation-exfoliation, reaction containment, and purification to get the finished product. The finished product is achieved by preparing an oxidation, exfoliation and reaction containment module comprising refrigeration recirculatory, a water filtration system (1) comprising three activated carbon filters (5) and ultraviolet light, a reverse osmosis water purification system, an ice generating device or apparatus, a water container (3), and an automated rotary mixing system (2). The automated rotary mixing system comprises a modified balloon flask (6) with internal ribs, a vertical condenser, a reagent dosing inlet, a funnel, a water container, a safety cabin and an infrared sensor. USE - Method for producing graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide nanostructured materials used as raw material or nanofiller in chemical technical applications, paints, waterproofing agents, inks, coatings, additives, concrete, cement and asphalt (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method produces the carbon-based nanostructured materials know as graphene oxide in a simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly manner with variable functionalization from oxidation and chemical exfoliation of graphite of different natures (refined amorphous, refined synthetic, crystalline and combinations) and different sizes. The graphene oxide paste is purified in presence of water, hydrochloric acid and ethanol by using standardized purification to get final finish of the graphene oxide with variable functionalization. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a system or operating assembly for producing graphene oxide, which comprises an oxidation-exfoliation and reaction containment module, a purification module, a leachate discharge module and a product finishing module.
