NOVELTY - A nitrogen-containing carbon material comprises iron atom and a graphene structure including a pyridine-based nitrogen atom. The iron atom includes four pyridine-based nitrogen atom structures in which each nitrogen atom is coordinated. The pyridine-based nitrogen atom structures have an active site concentration of 3.0x 10-5-1.0x 10-4 mol sites/g. USE - Nitrogen-containing carbon material used as adsorbent for forming electrode such as positive electrode for fuel cell (all claimed) such as polymer electrolyte fuel cell. ADVANTAGE - The material has excellent oxygen reduction activity and durability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the nitrogen-containing carbon material, which involves heat treating a precursor containing a zinc phenanthroline complex.
