NOVELTY - C-modified platinum-based catalysts is claimed. The active component of C-modified platinum-based catalyst is platinum (Pt) which dissociates carbon monoxide (CO) to form C fragments and enter the Pt lattice to form Pt-C bonds. USE - C-modified platinum-based catalysts is useful in catalytic hydrogenation of halogenated nitrobenzenes (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The platinum-based catalysts: has smaller particle size, and improved dispersibility. The method inhibits the dehalogenation and improves the selectivity of halogenated anilines. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparing C-modified platinum-based catalyst comprising carrying out calcination of platinum-based catalyst in a CO gas atmosphere to obtain final product; (2) method for catalytic hydrogenation of halogenated nitrobenzenes, comprising successively adding C-modified platinum-based catalyst, halogenated nitrobenzene, and solvent to reaction flask to form mixture, passing nitrogen gas to replace air in the reaction flask, passing H2 again to the reaction flask, pressurizing and stirring the mixture until the reaction is complete.
