NOVELTY - Manufacturing a layer of graphene (420), comprises depositing a layer of amphiphilic compounds having at least two different chemical compositions onto a substrate (440); allowing the layer to self-assemble into a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) (400) onto at least two regions of the substrate, where each region includes one of the amphiphilic compounds; and heating the SAM layer to convert it to a layer of graphene. USE - The method is useful for manufacturing a layer of graphene for forming an article (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method provides graphene layer in the form of large films of uniform and controllable thickness at low cost in an industrially scalable manner.
