NOVELTY - The synthesis of composite photocatalyst involves preparing graphene oxide, adding graphene oxide to solution containing iron(III)nitrate nonahydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate and ethanol, stirring to complete dissolve, adding polyethylene glycol and polyvinylpyrrolidone to obtain mixture, evenly stirring, transferring solution to reactor for constant temperature thermal reaction, cooling to room temperature, washing solid product with deionized water, washing with ethanol, and drying to obtain iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide. USE - Microwave assisted synthesis of recoverable cadmium sulfide/iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide composite photocatalyst used in degradation of tetracycline in wastewater (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method enables microwave assisted synthesis of composite photocatalyst without causing resource waste using simple process in environmentally-friendly manner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The synthesis of composite photocatalyst involves preparing graphene oxide, adding graphene oxide to solution containing iron(III)nitrate nonahydrate, sodium acetate trihydrate and ethanol, stirring to complete dissolve, adding polyethylene glycol and polyvinylpyrrolidone to obtain mixture (A), evenly stirring, transferring solution to reactor for constant temperature thermal reaction, cooling to room temperature, washing solid product with deionized water, washing with ethanol, drying to obtain iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide, dissolving cadmium chloride and L-cysteine hydrochloride in deionized water, stirring until completely dissolved, adding iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide, continuously stirring to obtain mixture (B), adjusting pH of mixture (B) with sodium hydroxide solution, introducing nitrogen, removing oxygen, adding sodium sulfide nonahydrate, evenly stirring to obtain mixture (C), reacting in presence of microwaves, separating precipitate from solution using magnet, washing precipitate with ethanol, and drying using vacuum oven. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) cadmium sulfide/iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide composite photocatalyst which comprises 10-50 %mass reduced graphene oxide, and 20-90 %mass iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide; and (2) use of cadmium sulfide/iron(II,III)oxide/reduced graphene oxide composite photocatalyst in degradation of tetracycline in wastewater.
