NOVELTY - Combining a cerium(IV) salt, which is dissolved in a solvent comprising water with a carbon material having carbon nanotube or graphene, is claimed, where the process takes place for a time period and at a temperature and solution concentration, sufficient to oxidize the carbonaceous material mainly to produce an oxidized material which is not preferably conducting, and after the oxidation of the cerium(IV), the oxidized material is removed. USE - The product obtained by combining the cerium(IV) salt and carbon material is useful to manufacture an article on a substrate, where the substrate is an electronic unit, which is a semiconductor device, preferably field-effect transistor, a carbon nanotube field-effect transistor and/or a graphene-semiconductor device (all claimed). The oxidized carbon material is useful in photovoltaics units, displays and organic LED ADVANTAGE - The carbon material can be rapidly oxidized without using costly chemicals at the edge and plasma energy, hence economical. The oxidized carbon material exhibits high resistance to corrosion. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a product obtained by the above method; and (2) an article of manufacture having the product on a substrate.
