NOVELTY - Composition (C1) comprises a nanoporous carbon powder comprising (a) nanopores having disposed in it copper metal nanostructures and (b) an elemental copper nanowires, where the elemental copper nanowire further comprises internal carbon and the elemental copper nanowire comprises agglomerated elemental copper nanostructures. USE - The composition is useful as catalysts and electrodes. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a composition (C2) comprising the nanoporous carbon powder, where the elemental copper nanowire has a diameter of less than 1 mu and an aspect ratio of at least 5.
