NOVELTY - Graphene nanoribbon comprises a chiral edge to which an electron-withdrawing group is bonded. USE - The graphene nanoribbon is useful in a semiconductor device (claimed) which his useful in electronic devices such as computers (personal computers, supercomputers and servers), smartphones, portable telephones, tablet terminals, sensors, cameras, audio equipment, measuring equipment, inspection equipment and manufacturing equipment. ADVANTAGE - The graphene nanoribbon: is cost-effective; exhibits an increase in ribbon length and suppression of a polymerization defect by the stabilization of a reaction intermediate of the precursor molecule, as well as improvement in orientation; exhibits improved band gap, work function and contact resistance; and provides a high performance semiconductor device. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) fabricating the graphene nanoribbon comprising polymerizing many precursor molecules by a dehydrohalogenation reaction and a dehydrogenation reaction, where each of the precursor molecules has a molecular structure in which many acene structure parts each of which contains a group of benzene rings arranged in a first direction are polymerized in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, a halogen atom is bonded to an edge in the first direction of a terminal acene structure part, and an electron-withdrawing group is bonded to an edge in the second direction; and (2) a semiconductor device comprising the graphene nanoribbon having a chiral edge to which an electron-withdrawing group is bonded.
