NOVELTY - Graphene oxide is extracted from an aqueous solution comprising graphene oxide, which involves contacting (201) the aqueous solution with at least one positively charged organic compound. USE - The method or positively charged organic compound is useful for extracting graphene oxide from an aqueous solution comprising graphene oxide (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The generation of the phase boundary allows for effective charge separation of the graphene oxide from the aqueous solution via protonation of the organic base on addition of the acid, thus providing a fast and efficient separation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a graphene oxide product obtainable by the method above; and (2) an apparatus for processing an aqueous solution comprising graphene oxide, where the apparatus is configured to perform the method above.
