NOVELTY - A composite cathode active material comprises a core comprising a lithium transition metal oxide, and a shell arranged on and conforming to a surface of the core. The shell comprises at least one metal oxide (a) which is at least one metal from group 2 to 13, group 15 and 16 elements, a carbonaceous material, and a doped fluorine element. The metal oxide (a) is arranged in a carbonaceous material matrix. USE - Composite active material used as cathode for lithium battery (all claimed). Uses include but are not included for battery module/battery pack for laptop computer, smartphone, electric vehicle, electric bicycle, power tool, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. ADVANTAGE - The composite active material provides battery having improved high-temperature and high-voltage cycle characteristics and charge-discharge capacity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A composite cathode active material comprises a core comprising a lithium transition metal oxide, and a shell arranged on and conforming to a surface of the core. The shell comprises at least one metal oxide (a) of formula: MaOb, where M is at least one metal from group 2 to 13, group 15 and 16 elements, a is 0-3 and b is 0-4, a carbonaceous material, and a doped fluorine element.
