NOVELTY - The method involves Arcing contacts are manufactured by providing (S102) a contact material powder comprising of a metal material powder, graphene and functionalized graphene. An arcing contact is formed (S104) from the powder on a contact carrier using directed energy deposition. The contact is manufactured directly on the carrier using the deposition. Forming the contact comprises forming a first arcing layer with a first concentration of graphene or its functionalized in the powder, and subsequently forming a second arcing layers with a second concentration. The concentration is varied during forming of the contact to form the contact. USE - Method for manufacturing arcing contacts for an electrical switching device i.e. low voltage breakers. Can also be used for contactors. ADVANTAGE - The method enables manufacturing an arcing contact of various shapes to improve performance of the arcing contacts, so that rounded corners can reduce risk of an arc getting stuck in a corner or leaving a contact area, thus improving thermal properties and reducing risk of contact welding, and hence improving performance of an electrical switching device.
