NOVELTY - Aerogel comprises graphene oxide which is crosslinked with a metal ion, where the metal ion comprises alkali metal ions, alkaline earth metal ions, transition metal ions and basic metal ions and the metal ion is not comprising ferric ion, cobalt(2+) ion, nickel(2+), cupric ion, zirconium(4+), tin(4+) ion, titanium(4+), vanadium(5+), lanthanum(III) cation, chromium(3+), aluminum ion, zinc(2+) and cerium(4+). USE - The aerogel is useful: for adsorbing moisture from a gas stream; for desorbing water adsorbed onto a graphene oxide aerogel; for recovering water; and in an atmospheric water generator (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The aerogel: is surprisingly developed lightweight graphene oxide-based aerogel materials which may have a highly porous structures and large surface area making them suitable for adsorption applications; has high water adsorption capacity with fast adsorption and desorption rates due to their unique physico-chemical properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: preparing the aerogel comprising (a) contacting graphene oxide with a crosslinking agent in the presence of a liquid and (b) removing the liquid to form the aerogel; graphene oxide aerogel produced according to the method; adsorbing moisture from a gas stream or an atmosphere laden with the moisture, comprising contacting the gas stream or the atmosphere with a graphene oxide aerogel, thus adsorbing the moisture from the gas stream or the atmosphere; desorbing water adsorbed onto a graphene oxide aerogel, comprising sufficiently heating the graphene oxide aerogel, thus releasing the adsorbed water and regenerating the aerogel; recovering water from the aerogel having water adsorbed to it, comprising sufficiently heating the aerogel, thus releasing the adsorbed water, and recovering the water; and an atmospheric water generator comprising the aerogel.
