NOVELTY - The device (10) has an electrically conductive material that transmits electrical signals. A porous material is in electrical contact with the electrically conductive material. A securing material (14) secures the porous material on the electrically conductive material. The securing material comprises a protecting portion which is in physical contact with an edge region of the porous material. The porous material comprises a carbon material. The carbon material is a graphene material such as a graphene oxide (GO) or a reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The securing material comprises a polymer such as polymer selected from polyimide, parylene, polydimethylsiloxane, and SU8, preferably polyimide. USE - Neural interface device for neuro-stimulation used for cortical and deep brain stimulation. ADVANTAGE - The method provides a neural interface with edge protected porous material. The neural interface device has high structural integrity, high electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, high chemical stability, high flexibility, and high mechanical and chemical stability against chemical and mechanical degradation of coatings, and is highly inert and mechanically robust, thus avoiding degradation problems.
