NOVELTY - Composition comprises functionalized graphene oxide synthesized by functionalizing graphene oxide with specific functional groups and coupling agents, where the resulting functionalized graphene oxide has a high adsorption capacity and selectivity for heavy metal ions. USE - Composition used for removing heavy metal ions from wastewater using functionalized graphene oxide (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composition has a cost-effective, environmentally friendly solution and does not produce toxic sludge or waste, and the resulting functionalized graphene oxide has a high adsorption capacity and selectivity for heavy metal ions. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for the method for removing heavy metal ions from wastewater using functionalized graphene oxide, which involves (a) adding the functionalized graphene oxide to the wastewater, (b) stirring the mixture for a certain period to allow the adsorption of heavy metal ions, and (c) separating the treated wastewater from the functionalized graphene oxide using filtration or centrifugation.
