NOVELTY - Use of a catalyst for the reduction-oxidation reactions of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and carbon monoxide resulting from tobacco combustion, is claimed. The catalyst comprises an oxide-metal ceramic of ferric oxide, ferrous oxide and aluminum oxide. The oxide-metal is coated with a graphene-based material chosen from monolayer graphene, bilayer graphene and multilayer graphene. The graphene based materials comprise naturally occurring vacancies, which function as active sites promoting high catalytic activity. The catalyst composite is mixed and distributed along the cigarette with the tobacco product. USE - Use of catalyst for reduction-oxidation of nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides and carbon monoxide released during combustion of tobacco in diverse smoke devices e.g. cigarettes and smoke pipes (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has excellent catalytic and filtering performance, enhances the rate of the reaction without changing the respective thermodynamics nor the chemical composition, ensures the transformation of toxic inorganic gases into non-toxic gases e.g. oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The catalyst does not affect fragrance and flavors of the tobacco product and is cost efficient. The catalyst effectively reduces the inhalation of toxic gases released during the combustion process of tobacco.
