NOVELTY - Composition (C1) comprises (a) a zeolite substrate, and (b) at least one nanosheets adhered to the zeolite substrate, where the nanosheets comprises graphene oxide and/or reduced graphene oxide. USE - The compositions are useful for: removing a persistent organic pollutant from a water supply; and removing a heavy metal from a water supply (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composition: utilizes in removing pollutants from a water supply; is easily recycled; exhibits good regeneration ability which is beneficial to reduce the cost; exhibits better overall performance, in terms of larger surface area, smaller pore diameter and larger pore volume; maintains good performance of adsorption capacity when compared with the other zeolites; offers exceptional ion-exchange and sorption properties advantageous in heavy metal removal from water; and improves physical treatments (cleaning and acid treatment) and/or engineered with graphene oxide. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) a composition (C2) comprising (a1) a zeolite substrate, and (b1) a sulfide, where the sulfide functionalizes a surface of the zeolite substrate; (2) preparing (M1) the composition (C1) comprising adhering at least one graphene oxide nanosheets to a zeolite substrate; (3) preparing (M2) the composition (C2) comprising contacting a zeolite substrate with zinc acetate and thioacetamide; (4) preparing (M3) the composition (C2) comprising contacting a sodium salt-treated zeolite substrate with cystamine or its salt; (5) removing (M4) a persistent organic pollutant from a water supply comprising contacting the composition (C1) with a water supply containing the persistent organic pollutant and adsorbing the persistent organic pollutant onto the composition; and (6) removing (M5) a heavy metal from a water supply comprising contacting the composition (C2) with a water supply containing the heavy metal and adsorbing the heavy metal onto the composition.
