NOVELTY - Barrier coating forming solution comprises a 5-40 wt.% base coating component, 50-70 wt.% solvent, 0.1-5 wt.% a flame, smoke, and toxicity (FST) resistive component, 0.1-2 wt.% an ultraviolet (UV) resistive component, 0.1-5 wt.% an antimicrobial component, and optionally 0.5 wt.% a dye component. USE - Barrier coating forming solution for use in surface coating substrates, for instance, interior surfaces in aircraft to protect surfaces against damage from physical contact, chemicals, and UV exposure. ADVANTAGE - The barrier coating has improved antimicrobial and FST and can be applied to interior surfaces to improve FST performance, surface coatings are commonly applied to material surfaces to improve cleanability and durability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for method for applying a barrier coating to a surface of a substrate and detecting the applied barrier coating, which involves (1) providing a barrier coating forming solution; (2) providing a substrate; (3) applying the barrier coating forming solution to a surface of the substrate; (4) allowing the applied barrier coating forming solution to cure or dry to form a barrier coating on the surface of the substrate; and (5) detecting the formed barrier coating via a quantifiable measurement technique.
