NOVELTY - Manufacturing a first sheet (26) of a first two-dimensional (2D) material i.e. graphene, comprises: providing a container (10) containing a substrate comprising a set of layers including a first liquid layer (12) and a solid layer (13) above it, and a volume above the substrate; supplying precursor species to the volume, where the precursor species comprise atoms i.e. carbon atoms of the first 2D material; allowing the precursor species to settle on a surface (22) of the substrate and to coalesce to form the first sheet of the first 2D material; and liquefying the solid layer at least in part. USE - The method is useful for manufacturing a first sheet of a first two-dimensional material i.e. graphen which is used in an apparatus (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method utilizes the second liquid layer that enhances planar mobility of the precursor species and/or fragments of the first sheet of the first two-dimensional material, thus improving coalescing and formation of the first sheet of the first two-dimensional material.
