The graphene quantum dot formed exhibits fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region. USE - Method for forming graphene quantum dot. ADVANTAGE - The method enables to form graphene quantum dot that improves biocompatibility. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for forming doped graphene quantum dot, which involves adding organic starting material to vessel, organic starting material isa cyclic and water-soluble compound containing carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, dissolving organic starting material within the vessel in solvent to form reaction mixture, adding metal-containing compound to the reaction mixture and exposing the reaction mixture to microwave radiation, doped graphene quantum dot formed exhibiting fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region.
