NOVELTY - Forming graphene quantum dot involves adding graphene source to vessel, homogenously suspending graphene source in solvent to form reaction mixture, adding oxidant to the reaction mixture and irradiating the reaction mixture. The graphene quantum dot formed exhibits fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region. USE - Method for forming graphene quantum dot. ADVANTAGE - The method enables to form graphene quantum dot that improves biocompatibility. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for forming doped graphene quantum dot, which involves adding organic starting material to vessel, organic starting material isa cyclic and water-soluble compound containing carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, dissolving organic starting material within the vessel in solvent to form reaction mixture, adding metal-containing compound to the reaction mixture and exposing the reaction mixture to microwave radiation, doped graphene quantum dot formed exhibiting fluorescence emission in the near-infrared region.
