NOVELTY - Production of graphene comprises providing boron carbide powder; and exposing the powder to high intensity laser illumination in the presence of a gas, where localized formation of graphene on the surface of boron carbide is obtained. USE - The method is used for producing graphene for electronic devices. ADVANTAGE - The method sheds light on amorphization pathways of boron carbide, a critical component of resilient mechanical composites, and also enables laser-write graphitic contacts on single crystal boron carbide for nanoelectronics. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for the graphitization of boron carbide powder, comprising providing a specimen of boron carbide powder and performing Raman measurements on the specimen with a laser in a controlled environment.
