NOVELTY - A high-performance aluminum battery comprises anode, cathode, electrolyte, and separator connected to anode and cathode. The anode is made of graphene-nickel composite material, where nickel nanoparticles are embedded in graphene and diameter of nickel particles is between 0.5-10 mu m. The cathode is made of high purity aluminum. The electrolyte comprises aluminum(III) ion, chloride ion, and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ion, where molar ratio of aluminum(III) ion and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ion is greater than 0.8 and less than 1.5. USE - High-performance aluminum battery. ADVANTAGE - The battery has high thermal stability, overcomes problems of lithium-ion batteries, does not explode, and has charge and discharge platform of greater than or equal to 3.5 V, cycle life of more than 5000 times, and energy density of greater than or equal to 90 W.hour/kg. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of battery comprising: (A) adding graphite powder to concentrated sulfuric acid, ice bath-stirring, adding potassium permanganate powder, where ratio of graphite powder and potassium permanganate is 1:1.5-1:2, stirring at 20 degrees C, stirring to 32-38 degrees C for 28-32 minutes, slowly adding deionized water and 30% hydrogen peroxide at amount of 5 mL/minute, heating to 95-100 degrees C, and stirring for 15 minutes; (B) adding less than 1/5 times nickel powder, ultrasonically dispersing, slowly adding 5-10 mL hydrazine, stirring, oil bath-heating to 100 degrees C, reacting for 30 minutes, semi-permeable membrane filtering, washing with deionized water, methanol, and ethanol for 4 times, and drying at 60 degrees C; (C) mixing 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride and aluminum chloride; and (D) arranging anode and cathode and injecting electrolyte.
