NOVELTY - Making a composition comprises oxidizing graphite to graphite oxide using a sulfur-containing reagent, exfoliating the graphite oxide to form graphene sheets, and blending the graphene sheets with elemental sulfur and/or organosulfur compound, where the graphene sheets comprise 1 wt.% of sulfur. USE - The method is useful for making a composition that is useful for manufacturing an electrode such as a cathode of a battery or ultracapacitor (all claimed), where the battery includes a lithium sulfur battery and is useful in portable electronic devices such as computers, cellular telephones, games, navigation systems, personal digital assistants, music players, games, calculators, radios, touch pad devices, artificial paper, reading devices, vehicles such as electric and hybrid vehicles (including cars, trucks, minivans, sport utility vehicles, buses, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, mopeds, electric bicycles, scooters and submersibles), power tools, landscaping equipment (such as lawnmowers, trimmers and edgers), chain saws, lighting devices (such as flash lights, spot lights and flood lights) military equipment, night vision goggles, rangefinders and target identifiers. ADVANTAGE - The composition enhances storage capacity, energy densities, specific power, lifespan and self discharge rates of the battery.
