NOVELTY - A fabric containing unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fiber is produced by preparing graphene oxide gel in a fluid medium; depositing continuous filament of graphene oxide gel; removing fluid medium to form continuous graphene oxide fiber; heat-treating continuous graphene oxide fiber to form unitary graphene-based continuous fiber; forming continuous graphitic yarn containing unitary graphene-based continuous fiber; and creating the fabric, where unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fiber has porosity level of less than or equal to 5 vol.% and oxygen content of less than or equal to 5 wt.%. USE - Production of fabric containing unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fiber for heating device and filter or fabric for blocking pathogenic agents (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The continuous graphitic fibers produced from living graphene molecules or chains exhibit a combination of exceptionally high tensile strength, elastic modulus, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and ease of functionalization unmatched by any type of continuous fiber yarns. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) fabric which has volumetric packing density of 20-90%; (2) fabric comprising continuous graphitic yarn which has a cross-section that is rectangular or flat-shaped, having a width and a thickness; (3) fabric comprising unitary graphene-based continuous fibers, where greater than or equal to 1 of the fibers contains chemical functionalization; (4) fabric which is electrically conductive; and (5) heating device containing the fabric which acts as a resistance heater when an electric current is applied.
