NOVELTY - The device has a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration media configured to filter particulates of 0.3 microns in diameter. The HEPA filtration media comprises graphene oxide (GO) (30) as an antibacterial and antiviral material configured to inactivate trapped micro-organisms. The HEPA filtration media comprises a mat of randomly arranged fibers coated with GO. The GO is deposited on the fibers and the GO is ultrasonically deposited on the fibers. The GO comprises graphene oxide aerogel. The HEPA filtration media comprises a mat of randomly arranged GO fibers. The HEPA filtration media is shaped and configured for use in an air purification system. USE - Air filtration device used in fabrication of protective face mask. ADVANTAGE - The air filtration device provides effective disinfection of a filter surface to inactivate the microorganisms trapped by the filter media. The graphene oxide is an antibacterial and antiviral material that is functionalized GO insoluble in water. The GO is a GO-chitosan material.
