NOVELTY - Visible light catalyst comprises 85-95 wt.% bismuth oxide-bromine-iodine complex, and 5-15 wt.% graphene. USE - The catalyst is used for solar photocatalytic decomposition of organic pollutants. ADVANTAGE - The method is environmentally friendly, and has simple processing techniques. The catalyst has high visible light catalytic activity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Visible light catalyst comprises 85-95 wt.% bismuth oxide-bromine-iodine complex and 5-15 wt.% graphene. Bismuth oxide-bromine-iodine complex is represented by formula of BiOBrxI1-x (I). x = 0.2 An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing visible light catalyst, comprising (i) dissolving 0.025-0.075 g graphite oxide in ethanol, carrying out ultrasonic treatment for 1-2 hours to obtain graphene oxide suspension, (ii) adding 0.0617 g sodium bromide and 0.8224 g potassium iodide at room temperature, and dissolving in 4 ml anhydrous ethylene glycol, (iii) adding 1.4552 g bismuth(III) nitrate pentahydrate in 35 ml ethylene glycol, (iv) slowly dropping resulting solution obtained in step (ii) to the step (iii) obtained solution, continuously stirring for an hour, (v) slowly dropping the step (i) obtained suspension into to the step (iv) obtained solution, (vi) stirring the resulting solution for 1-2 hours, transferring to reaction kettle of polytetrafluoroethylene liner, crystallizing at 160-180 degrees C to react for 12-16 hours, and (vii) filtering the resulting solid product, washing, and drying to obtain bismuth oxide-bromine-iodine/graphene complex visible light catalyst.
