NOVELTY - Preparing vanadium oxide cathode material involves preparing a graphene oxide (GO) suspension, mixing the graphene oxide suspension with decavanadic acid (HVO3) in a predetermined ratio to obtain a mixture, curing the obtained mixture to obtain a homogeneous vanadium oxide (V2O5)/GO hydrogel, annealing the obtained V2O5/GO hydrogel to obtain an annealed material, freezing, and drying the obtained annealed material to obtain a xerogel, where the xerogel is about 98 wt.% V2O5. USE - Method for preparing vanadium oxide cathode material for use as electrode material for electrochemical cell, and lithium ion battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The prepared vanadium oxide cathode material has high specific capacity and specific energy. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1)an electrode material for an electrochemical cell, which comprises: a multiple vanadium pentoxide ribbons defining a substrate, and a multiple graphene oxide sheets infiltrating the substrate, where each graphene oxide sheet is located between two adjacent vanadium pentoxide ribbons, the graphene oxide sheet is present in an amount of about 2 wt.% electrode material, interlayer spacing between two adjacent vanadium pentoxide ribbons is equal to or between about 10.2-11.5 angstrom, and crystalline water in an amount sufficient to maintain the interlayer spacing between the vanadium pentoxide ribbon; (2)a cathode, which is: formed from the electrode material; and (3)a lithium-ion battery, which comprises: a cathode. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a perspective view of the interaction of vanadium oxide and graphene oxide sheet with water pillar between adjacent vanadium oxide sheet.
