NOVELTY - Flower-shaped magnesium iron layered hydroxide microsphere-graphene complex material, is claimed. The complex material is prepared by (i) preparing graphene oxide by using the modified Hummers method, (ii) dispersing iron chloride, magnesium nitrate, sodium dodecylsulfonate and the graphene oxide described in step (i) in ethylene glycol to obtain a first reaction liquid, dissolving sodium hydroxide in ethylene glycol to obtain second reaction liquid, adding the second reaction liquid to the first reaction liquid, and reacting at 140-180 degrees C for 20-24 hours, cooling to room temperature, washing and drying. USE - Used as flower-shaped magnesium iron layered hydroxide microsphere-graphene complex material. ADVANTAGE - The method: is rapid, efficient and selective on-site analysis and detection of heavy metal ions in water, has excellent selectivity, wide linear range and low detection limit. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) use of magnesium iron layered hydroxide microsphere-graphene complex material comprising modifying graphene complex material by a glassy carbon electrode, and layering the glassy carbon electrode modified by the flower-shaped magnesium iron hydroxide microsphere-graphene complex material using as a working electrode for electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions in water; and (2) detecting heavy metal ions in a water body comprising using glassy carbon electrode modified with flower-shaped magnesium iron layered hydroxide microsphere-graphene complex material as a working electrode, electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions of divalent cadmium or divalent lead in water.
