NOVELTY - Producing magnetorheological fluid comprises (a) adding graphene oxide powder into distilled water and dispersing to obtain a uniform solution, adjusting the pH value of the dispersion to 11 by adding sodium hydroxide solution, adding aqueous solution of iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate into the above dispersion and stirring to obtain graphene oxide with manganese ferrite composite, adding the composite into a tubular furnace, reacting at 550 degrees C under argon atmosphere at a rate of 10 degrees C/minute, maintaining the argon atmosphere and slowly cooling to room temperature to obtain a manganese ferrite/reduced graphene oxide composite, and (b) adding greater than or equal to 50 wt.% carbonyl iron in oil into 0.5-2 wt.% manganese ferrite/reduced graphene oxide composite and dispersing to obtain reduced graphene oxide-based magnetorheological fluid. USE - The magnetorheological fluid is useful in shock-absorbing devices e.g. brakes, seat belts, dampers and clutches. ADVANTAGE - The magnetorheological fluid has improved dispersion stability and improved sedimentation problem.
