NOVELTY - A self-healing binder compound (I) is new. USE - The self-healing binder is used as negative electrode material for lithium ion batteries (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The lithium ion battery has a significant improvement in specific capacity and cycle stability, initial discharge specific capacity increased by about 12.7%, and capacity retention rate of 98.0%. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A self-healing binder compound of formula (I) is new. R=one or more of 6 groups of formulae (a)-(e). INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) preparation of thec ompound (I); and (2) application of the binder comprising mixing the binder with conductive agent, negative electrode active material, and dispersant, ball milling, coating on current collector with a coating thickness of 15-20 mu m, heating, and drying 60-100 degrees C, where mass ratio of binder, conductive agent, negative electrode active material and dispersant is 1:0.5-2:(5-18):(20-100) and negative electrode active material of lithium ion battery is nano silicon powder, lithium titanate, or nano graphite powder.
