NOVELTY - Catalyst comprises an ion exchange resin. The resin matrix comprises a fragment (I), and is selected from three structural fragments. USE - Catalyst for catalytic hydration reaction of alkylene oxide. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has good heat resistance, high activity, good selectivity, and good stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Catalyst comprises an ion exchange resin with a structural formula P-N+-M-. The resin matrix P comprises a fragment of formula (I), and is selected from three structural fragments of -CH2-CH2-, -CH(CNT)-CH2-, and -CH(graphene)-CH2-. P=a resin matrix; N+=a quaternary ammonium cation; M-=an anion; R1-R3=independently selected from H or 1-6C alkyl, preferably H, methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl; and CNT=a carbon nanometer tube. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: (1) a method for preparing catalyst, which comprises subjecting the resin matrix to Friedel-Crafts reaction, ketone group reduction reaction, chloromethylation reaction, quaternization reaction and ion exchange reaction to obtain the catalyst; and (2) a method for catalyzing hydration of alkylene oxide, which comprises carrying out alkylene oxide and deionized water catalytic hydration reaction in the presence of the catalysts.
