NOVELTY - Hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane comprises a base polymer, a pore-forming agent, and a hydrophilic polymer. USE - Hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane for removal of heavy metals including arsenic (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The ultrafiltration membrane helps in effective removal of arsenic, capable of removing even small molecular weight compounds, no phase change during separation, simple operation, low energy requirement, higher efficiency and high filtration performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a non-solvent induced phase separation process for preparing a hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane, which involves: i. preparing a solution of a pore-forming agent selected from polyvinylpyrrolidone, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate phthalate, or polyethylene glycol; ii. dispersing hydrophilic polymer selected from polydopamine, inorganic nanoparticles such as zirconium oxide, graphene oxide, zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, aluminum oxide, binary oxide or combinations and solution in a solvent selected from n-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) by ultrasonification; iii. dosing base polymer selected from polyphenylsulfone (PPSU), polysulfone (PSf), polyethersulfone (PES), polyethyleneimine (PEI), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) into the solution to obtain a homogenous solution; iv. degasifying and extruding the homogenous solution using a spinneret to generate the hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane.
