NOVELTY - Preparing modified magnetic particle comprises (a) mixing the coating material with the solvent to obtain a mixed solution and (b) mixing the mixed solution obtained in the step (a) with magnetic particles, spraying and drying to obtain the modified magnetic particles. USE - The modified magnetic particle is useful in a magneto rheological shock absorber (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The magneto rheological fluid has lower zero-field viscosity, better fluidity and wear resistance and has lower sedimentation rate. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) a modified magnetic particle; (2) a magneto rheological fluid comprising 40-90 pts. wt. modified magnetic particle, 10-50 pts. wt. base oil, 0.1-5 pts. wt. thixotropic agent and 0.1-5 pts. wt. additive; and (3) preparing magneto rheological fluid comprising (1) mixing the base oil and the thixotropic agent to obtain mixture A, (2) mixing the mixed liquid A obtained in step (1) and modified magnetic particles to obtain a mixed liquid B and (3) mixing the mixed liquid B obtained in step (2) with additives to obtain the magneto-rheological liquid
