NOVELTY - Preparation of high efficiency and photocatalytic graphene oxide-cadmium sulfide involves adding natural graphite to concentrated sulfuric acid, adding potassium permanganate and sodium nitrate, stirring, water bath heating, diluting with water, adding hydrogen peroxide, washing, centrifuging, drying, and sealing; and weighing, dissolving in water-ethylene diamine, dispersing, adding cadmium(II) nitrate tetrahydrate, stirring, adding cadmium(II) nitrate tetrahydrate, thiourea, and polyvinylpyrrolidone, stirring, hydrothermal reacting, cooling, filtering, washing, drying, and grinding. USE - Method for preparing high efficiency and photocatalytic graphene oxide-cadmium sulfide (claimed) used as photocatalyst for catalytic degradation of methylene blue solution. ADVANTAGE - The composite material has 97.1% degradation rate of 20 mg/L methylene blue solution under visible light within 120 minutes. The method is simple and energy-saving and has reduced synthesis cost. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of high efficiency and photocatalytic graphene oxide-cadmium sulfide comprises: (A) adding 5.0 g natural graphite to 115 mL 98% concentrated sulfuric acid, slowly adding 15.0 g potassium permanganate and 2.5 g sodium nitrate, controlling temperature at 10-15 degrees C, stirring for 30 minutes at 35 degrees C, placing in water while stirring for 2 hours, slowly adding 250 mL water, water bath heating at 95-98 degrees C, continuously stirring for 30 minutes, diluting with 700 mL water, adding 10 mL 30% hydrogen peroxide, washing with 5% hydrochloric acid and excess deionized water, centrifuging, repeatedly washing until neutral, vacuum drying at 60 degrees C for 24 hours, and sealing; and (B) weighing, dissolving in water-ethylene diamine, ultrasonically dispersing for 20 minutes, adding cadmium(II) nitrate tetrahydrate, rapidly stirring for 30 minutes, slowly adding cadmium(II) nitrate tetrahydrate, thiourea, and polyvinylpyrrolidone, stirring, transferring 100 mL to hydrothermal reaction vessel, reacting at 180-200 degrees C for 24 hours, naturally cooling, filtering, washing with deionized water and ethanol until neutral, drying at 60 degrees C for 24 hours, and grinding.
