NOVELTY - A silicon/graphene oxide composite cathode material involves dissolving surface-modified silica powder in de-ionized water and carrying out dispersion using alcohol and toluene in presence of surface active agent at room temperature. The resulting product is vacuum dried and subjected to ultrasonic dispersion at room temperature using aqueous solution of oxidized graphite. pH of the resulting solution is adjusted using dilute hydrochloric acid followed by filtering, centrifuging and vacuum drying brownish black composite to obtain finished product. USE - Method for preparing silicon/graphene oxide composite cathode material that is utilized in lithium ion battery. ADVANTAGE - The method enables preparing silicon/graphene oxide composite cathode material with high discharge capacity and cycling performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A silicon/graphene oxide composite cathode material preparing method involves adding concentrated hydrochloric acid or mixed solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide to surface modified nano-silicon powder and carrying out ultrasonic dispersion with stirring for 1-6 hours. The resulting dispersion is filtered to obtain concentrated hydrochloric acid activated silica powder or concentrated hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide activated silica powder. The silica powder is washed using de-ionized water and alcohol and dried at 50-100 degrees C under vacuum. The dried product is dissolved in water and subjected to ultrasonic dispersion at 15-200 degrees C. The resulting dispersion is filtered to obtain surface-modified silica powder. The surface-modified silica powder is dissolved in de-ionized water followed by adding surface active agent and carrying out dispersion using alcohol and toluene at room temperature for 2-8 hours. The resulting product is vacuum dried at 60-70 degrees C and subjected to ultrasonic dispersion at room temperature for 20-300 minutes using aqueous solution of oxidized graphite. pH of the resulting solution is adjusted using dilute hydrochloric acid to 5-7 followed by filtering and centrifuging to obtain brownish black composite. The brownish black composite is vacuum dried at 60-100 degrees C to obtain finished product.
