NOVELTY - A hybrid electrochemical lithium-ion cell (50) comprises an electrode (110) having a polarity (P1) and comprising an electroactive material (M1) which reversibly cyclically moves lithium ions, an electrode (120) having polarity (P1) and comprising an electroactive material (M2) which reversibly cyclically moves lithium ions and is different from material (M1), at least one electrode (130) comprising an electroactive material (M3) which reversibly cyclically moves lithium ions and having a polarity (P2) opposite to polarity (P1), and at least one voltage-modifying component in electrical communication with electrodes (110) and (120). The hybrid electrochemical lithium-ion cell has an operating state (S1) corresponding to charging and an operating state (S2) corresponding to discharging. The voltage-modifying component configured to operate in operating state (S1) induced a voltage drop. USE - Hybrid electrochemical lithium-ion cell is used in electrochemical device (claimed) e.g. lithium-ion battery. Uses include but are not limited to electric motor for hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle, laptop computer, tablet computer, mobile phone, and cordless power tools or devices. ADVANTAGE - The hybrid electrochemical lithium-ion cell has high power density, energy density, and performance capacity.
